It finally begins!

Today.. the workers are starting the renovations.  Hubby managed to get all the approvals and documentations in order and its the time now.

We are excited beyond words, too much time wasted already.  The workers start with the break down of the two toilets.  The renovation is extensive, major construction. Cant wait to see its starting to develop.

Signboards Installed!

Hubby and I had a chuckle when the contractor came and installed the signboards.  We havent started the business yet, especially with hubby's restaurant.  But the signboards are already up there, so we decided to put a cover on top of them so people wont see them yet lol.

But I must admit to see the signboards really lifted our moods and our spirits to do well in this new venture.  So "teruja" hehehe.

The signboards

Its been a week, we got so busy with everything life, and mostly taking care of starting up this business.  Its taken so much of our time, there are lots to do.

We had made order to make the signboards for both of our shops.  We ordered at Shim's Advertising Agency at Menglait. We got their contact from the Dewan Bahasa and we thought they are good enough to make order from since they are familiar with the whole process of applying for the signboards.

For info, applying for signboards we still need to get approval from Dewan Bahasa who will approve the signboards.  Then we will  apply for approval from TCP where we need to pay B$150 as tax (I dont know what tax).  All of these will be done by the Agency on our behalf.  Then they will design and make the signboards.

So we are good to go with the signboards although our business havent even started yet!

ABCi - what is it?

Wow... hubby is still waiting to start the construction of his restaurant.  Poor hubby, the rent has been running since february but the restaurant hasnt even started.  I guess to open up a restaurant is the most difficult business venture.  There are so many things to do, rules to follow and approval to seek.  Not to mention how expensive it is!  Luckily hubby is a strong person, he is determined and I pray to Allah that all will go well and his dream will come true :)

The construction is delayed (I explain why later).  We are now waiting approval from ABCi, we got approval to TCP already and now we are dealing with ABCi.  What is ABCi?  ABCi stands for Authority of Building and Construction Industries.  And one article about it can be read here.  In summary, they were formed to ensure all the constructions and worksites adhered to the set rules and regulations.  Similar to TCP but I guess ABCi is more into setting rules on safety, flood, water and pollution to the areas.

The job of getting the approval should be done by our QP (qualified person or Architect).  He is the same person who designed the restaurant drawings and submitted the approval to TCP.  We were still waiting to hear from him until last weekend.  Apparently he hasnt submitted hubby's approval to ABCi so the construction is now delayed.  Upon hearing hubby needed to sign some more papers we rushed to the QP office to sign some more drawings before it could be submitted.  And thats done, so more waiting.

In the meantime, hubby also collects a few more quotations from a few contractors and he found a good and reasonable cost for the construction.  So we might go to him.

Phew.. gotta be strong man...  Its not easy.  Its so different from my tailoring shop which is more simple.  For restaurant, it is more strict since the authority needs to protect the environment and the surrounding area, I guess.  So many requirements to fulfilled!

Accommodation for staff is finished

I am glad to report the construction of hubby's staff accommodation is now finished.  Now we need to concentrate on doing the furnishing and completing the whole place to make it livable.

So far hubby has bought the beds, and now finishing the wirings and the rest will be bought gradually.  There are still alot to be done but I am sure we will get there eventually.  This is also part of the Labour Dept requirements in order for us to apply the Labour Quota (this I will explain in another post).

I like the place!  In fact I dont mind living there, maybe we should stay there for a night, lol.
